As the first day of school quickly approaches, many families have questions on school start/end times, what virtual learning will look like, and how this will affect families when parents have to work. One immediate clarification is in regards to the option of self-paced virtual learning. Schools will work with families whose schedules make live instruction challenging. Families will have access to instructional resources to be used in a self-directed manner and students can still keep pace with their classroom peers for assignments and assessment deadlines.

    VIRTUAL LEARNING vs. REMOTE LEARNING

Virtual Learning involves instruction that is delivered digitally during traditional school hours for students to learn outside of the school building. Virtual learning involves teacher to student interaction in addition to student to student interaction and learning.

Virtual learning is different from remote learning. SCM developed remote learning in a span of 72 hours to provide the best learning opportunity possible for our students during the time of uncertainty. At the time of closure, SCM had not yet conducted any form of distance learning and did not have devices for every student. Through collaborative efforts of staff, students, families, and the community, we were able to provide the best learning experience possible at that time. However, we recognize the need to improve. Virtual Learning will be a reflection of these needed improvements.
