Summer Learning Adventures are intended to boost learning for students while providing access to high interest enrichment activities like STEM, Fine Arts, and physical activity.
The end of the school year can cause a panic in parents. It doesn't matter if you're working full time or at home with the kids, the fears are the same: you don't want your children to spend their summer in front of the TV all day or texting as their only means of communication with the rest of the world. Kids need to stay active and occupied during the summer months to make sure they get the most out of their summer before heading back to school.
WHY SUMMER LEARNING ADVENTURES IS IMPORTANT:
When the research is analyzed, it becomes clear that summer learning programs shouldn’t be a luxury or just an afterthought when there’s nothing else to do. Summer learning has a real positive impact on both academic and social-emotional development. It provides structure to children’s summer experiences, making it more likely that they will stay engaged and focused and out of trouble. It also keeps their academic skills polished and in some cases, makes it possible for them to get ahead.
Below is a comparison of School City of Mishawaka students who attended Summer Learning Adventures in the Summer of 2020 and those that did not. The comparison shows test scores from Fall 2019 through Winter of 2020 showing the continued rise in performance from students that attended summer learning and those that did not attend and have declining performance results.
Summer Learning Adventures provide children with a full day of activities that build skills, knowledge, and behaviors that encourage success in school and healthy development. The 2021 Summer Learning Adventures will be a camp-like culture that's more relaxed than school - promoting a sense of community and camaraderie. Activites are a blend of social elements to keep kids engaged and learning.
