Stepping on the Cracks

I am asking for 25 copies of the novel "Stepping on the Cracks" ($7.99). This would be used as a novel study. The book addresses the issues of bullying/respect/war/loyalty. It is a highly engaging story with two follow-up novels.

Student Desks

Student desks are being replace in my classroom with tables that allow for collaborative learning and reduced distractions. We need a few more tables to accommodate our growing class, and have enough for future class sizes. These tables have already made a big impact on student focus and will continue to do so for several years to come.

Wonder

I am requesting funding for a class set of the book "Wonder" by RJ Palacia. Also would like to purchase the picture book "We're All Wonders." Not only would I use this resource for guiding discussions and lessons on kindness and empathy, I would also use this as a unit for my Reading curriculum. The movie and book have so many valuable teaching points that I would be grateful for the donation.

Wireless equipment

Wireless headphones and mice would allow students to interact with technology by playing literacy and math games and complete programs such as reading eggs and extra math. Kindergarten students are coming into school not familiar with headphones and do not know how to use a mouse, therefore many of the headphones and mice are breaking. By having wireless equipment it would be less likely they would get broken and help students move around more easily when using technology in the classroom.

Ergo Kids Active Sitting Stool

Some students need to have other seating options other than a traditional desk and chair. Over the years, I have purchased several options for my students in order to give them an alternate seating choice during their independent reading and work times. I have already purchased scoop rockers, Bilibos, pillows, stools, stability balls and peanut shaped exercise balls. The Ergo Kids Active Sitting Stoll will allow those students who need more movement in their seats another alternative to a chair.

Craft Supplies

I would like to request funds to purchase materials that can be used for science/engineering instruction. We will be doing a lot of projects that require items like craft sticks, rubber bands, play dough, aluminum foil, magnetic items. The items will be recycled each year (best as I can). Many of the items will be purchased at the Dollar Store but there are a few items that may need to be ordered online through United Arts. We will be building bridges, boats, towers, catapults, etc.

Legos

My students need engaging activities to help build their creativity and writing. I would like to get some legos to assist students with their writing. It is important for students to understand how writing is a great way to communicate their ideas. They will build towards a given prompt and write about it. This is a great way to improve student writing when there is a visual of what they are describing.

Listening Library

My classroom is in need of listening center books and CDs. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and may not have exposure to books and read alouds. Listening Centers benefit by helping students decode unfamiliar words, teaching critical listening skills and providing a read-aloud model.
