New Hums Elementary School Continues to Take Shape

Construction continues to make remarkable progress on the new Hums Elementary School, and the future of learning in Mishawaka is becoming easier to imagine with each passing week.
This week, School City of Mishawaka welcomed members of the local media for a special Media Day, offering an inside look at one of the district's most significant investments in the future of education. Since the groundbreaking ceremony in October 2025, the project has advanced dramatically, with the building's layout now clearly visible throughout the site.
During the guided tour, media representatives had the opportunity to walk through future classrooms, hallways, collaborative learning spaces, common areas, and the gymnasium while learning more about the vision behind the new school. Representatives from F.A. Wilhelm and School City of Mishawaka Superintendent Dr. Theodore Stevens answered questions and shared updates on the project's progress.
Although construction is still underway, the excitement continues to build as each milestone brings the district one step closer to opening a state-of-the-art learning environment for Mishawaka students. The new Hums Elementary School is scheduled to welcome students for the 2027-2028 school year, providing a modern, innovative space designed to serve generations of learners.
As construction continues, School City of Mishawaka looks forward to sharing additional updates as the future home of Hums Elementary School moves closer to welcoming its first students.
