Hums and Liberty Elementary Schools have been recognized for an outstanding academic achievement—reaching Indiana’s goal of 95% of third-grade students demonstrating reading proficiency.

On April 8, 2026, Superintendent Dr. Stevens, along with representatives from both schools, traveled to Indianapolis to receive this prestigious recognition from Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner. The honor highlights the schools’ commitment to early literacy and student success.

Achieving this milestone reflects the hard work and dedication of students, educators, and staff who have prioritized reading as a foundation for lifelong learning. Their collective efforts have ensured that students are building the critical skills needed for future academic success.

This recognition places Hums and Liberty Elementary among a select group of schools across the state demonstrating excellence in literacy education.

Congratulations to the entire Hums and Liberty school communities on this remarkable accomplishment.
